 CATERPILLAR PATTERNS~
Last Thursday, we created our own caterpillar patterns.  They are displayed on the bulletin board in the hallway outside of our classroom.

NEW WORK STATIONS~  Following are new work stations that we introduced today.  Children will complete each of these work stations in the next 2 weeks.  You will see these work stations first-hand this Thursday during our Parent Visitation Day!

~LILY PAD~
When children visit the Lily Pad with Mrs. "B", they will work on putting together pictures that also spell 3 or 4-letter words.  Once a child has completed the pictures/words, the teacher will cover the picture (while the child's eyes are closed) and then ask the child to open his/her eyes and read the word.

In the activity below, the child claps the word corresponding to the picture to see how many parts (syllables) the word has.  The child then places the correct number of chips on the picture card, indicating the number of clasps (syllables) he/she heard.

~MATH MAGIC~
Children will use a "caterpillar ruler" to measure the items pictured below.
~PROJECT STATION~
When visiting the Project Station with Mrs. Spolter, children will complete one of the 2 math activities using dominoes.  The activity pictured below asks the child to choose a domino and add together the dots on each side of the domino.
The activity pictured below also uses dominoes but requires some problem-solving.  For example, with the first domino train, a child can only use 3 dominoes with dots adding up to a total of 10 dots.

For the other activity at the Project Station, a child is given a 2 or 3-digit number.  He/she then uses base ten blocks to represent the amount of that particular number.

~FINE MOTOR STATION~
Children are asked to cut out the butterfly pictures at the bottom of the page and match them to the butterflies at the top of the page.  A great visual discrimination activity!

~DISCOVERY STATION~
Children will us pasta and cereal pieces to create the life cycle of a butterfly.  Can you guess which food piece represents each stage of the life of a butterfly?

~CREATION STATION~
Children will paint part of an egg carton to create a caterpillar.

~GAMES GALORE~
Children play a rhyming game.
~ALPHABET STATION~
A child choose words to create a simple sentence.  He/she then copies the sentence on to a piece of paper and illustrates the sentence.
FREE CHOICE FUN!
Sophie and Mia enjoy playing with the floam in the Sensory Tub.

M.J. likes the floam, too!

Cooper and Seth work to put together a new butterfly life cycle floor puzzle!

Mary is working at Math Magic, building some intricate cube structures.
Lauren, Alek, and Christina work to put together a puzzle with the very hungry caterpillar in the Book Nook.

/CH/ SOUND~
Last week, we discussed the /ch/ sound and brainstormed all the words you see on the chart below.  And, we are still thinking of more words!
CHARLOTTE'S WEB~
Today we started reading the chaper book, Charlotte's Web.  Be sure to ask your child each day what has happened so far in the story.

HANDWRITING~

Today's handwriting lesson included letters G and Q.  Be sure to ask your child what parts (big line(s), little line(s), big curve(s), little curve(s)) were needed to make these letters.

 FREE CHOICE~
A child colors the pictures below, cuts them out, and then puts them in order to make a mini-version of the story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The tree in our Dramatic Play Butterfly Garden is filling up with eggs on leaves, caterpillars, chrysalises, and butterflies.
 Mary and Kaitlin--twin butterflies.
Below is a new animal matching game where children match the word and picture to the card.

 ZERO THE HERO~
Today we celebrated out 140th day of Pre-K.  To help us celebrate, Mary and her mom provided us with the activity of painting a birdhouse.  The birdhouses are drying overnight at school and will come home tomorrow.  Be sure to ask your child to show you the zeroes in his/her birdhouse.  Thanks to Mary and her mom for a wonderful activity!!
