NEW WORK STATIONS~

At the Alphabet Station, children match the words to build the sentence they see on the model.
At Games Galore, children play a bingo-style game.  During his/her turn, the child rolls the die and reads the number which appears.  Then, the child finds that number on his/her "board" and reads a word from that row.  If he/she reads the word correctly, then he/she highlights that word.
At the Overhead Station, children can do a word find--a Spring word find; a word find with girl classmates' names; or a word find with boy classmates' names.
 The Very Hungry Caterpillar~
Yesterday we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and then retold the story on the flannel board.

After the story, we completed the sentence on the page in the photo below with illustrations and words.  These are displayed on a large caterpillar outside of our classroom.

 FREE CHOICE LEARNING AND FUN!~
A new activity at the Alphabet Station is called "Write The Room".  Using a clipboard, a chart with every letter on it, and some special "reading glasses", children search the room to find words and add them to their chart.

Retelling The Very Hungry Caterpillar in the Book Nook.

Our Dramatic Play Station has been changed into a "Butterfly Garden".  Next week, the children will have the opportunity to use their creative skills to add some scenery to our Butterfly Garden.  Stay tuned!

We had lots of building going on today in the Construction Zone.

 STAR OF THE WEEK~
Our new Star of the Week is Seth!  Seth's favorite colors are green, red, and yellow; favorite restaurant is Panerra; and favorite place to visit is Uncle Jim's.  Seth also shared a special treasure of his--a soccer trophy.  Thank you for helping us get to know you better, Seth!

 IMPORTANT PRE-K WORK~

Mary and Cooper work with the pattern blocks at the Overhead Station during Work Stations.
Look what we drew on our "X" to decorate it!
Instead of reading their "Book In A Bag" to a teacher this week, we had the children share/read their books to a classmate--partner reading!

 GUEST READER~
Jack's Uncle Chris visited us today and read the story,  Alphabet Mystery.  Be sure to ask your child about the mystery in this story and how it was solved!

 LIFE CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY~
Using the photo cards below, we discussed and learned about the life cycle of a butterfly.  Be sure to ask your child what is happening in the photos below.   This is our final "theme of study" for the school year.  Stay tuned for more learning!

 ZERO THE HERO DAY!~
We celebrated our 130th day of school this year.  WOW!  Nathan and his dad provided us with a fun, seasonal activity.  The children decorated their own sand buckets.  Be sure to ask your child to show you where all the zeros are on the bucket and the shovel!  Thanks for a great project!

 FREE CHOICE FUN~
Here are some new activities we added to our Free Choice time...

At Math Magic, we added this "number maze".  Children begin at 100 and follow a path to 100 in numerical order.
 Christina completes the number maze!
Mia puts together one of the new butterfly puzzles at the Discovery Station.
Owen uses our new ladybug microscope to get a closer look at some butterfly specimens.
Sophie and Sasha are busy builders in the Construction Zone.
Cooper joins the building and a city emerges!
 STAR OF THE WEEK~
Today we learned more about our friend, Theo.  His favorite dessert is cake; favorite color is green; and favorite activity is baseball.  Theo shared his photos with us, including a collage photo of his trip to see the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series.  Theo's special item he shared with the class was a trophy from playing T-Ball.   Thank you for helping us get to know you better, Theo!

 BUDDY ACTIVITY~
Today we got together with our 2nd grade buddies and completed a space riddle activity.  This activity came home in your child's folder today.

 WEEKLY READER~
Your child brought home a Weekly Reader about Spring today.  This can be completed at home and DOES NOT need to be returned to school.

Yummy/Yucky - make slideshow
Last Friday, we had the children try/taste some foods which might be unfamiliar to them.  Children tasted matzoh, star fruit, avocado, edamame, and hard-boiled egg.  Each child then indicated on a recording sheet if he/she thought the food was yucky or yummy.  Be sure to ask your child to share his/her recording sheet with you!
