11-10-11

Katie Z. from Pre-K "B" brought in her kittens for Sound Box.  Her mom brought them to our room for a visit, too!  Their names are Tiger and Jasmine.

Today we read another story about mixing colors called, Mouse Paint.  Then, we did an experiment with mixing colors of paint.  Be sure to ask your child what happened when he/she mixed together certain colors of paint.  You can use the photos below to help!

Today we experimented and explored with straight and curved wood pieces.  These pieces will be used as we learn to write letters in our handwriting program.

NOTE:  DUE TO IT BEING A LATE START DAY AND A SHORT MORNING, WE DID NOT GO TO THE LIBRARY TODAY, BUT WILL GO THIS FRIDAY!

Queen Christina dressed for the castle!

Today, children drew pictures for the "K" page of their alphabet book.
Today we read the story, White Rabbit's Color Book.  From the story, we learned what happens when blue mixes with red; blue mixes with yellow;  yellow mixes with red; and yellow, red, and blue mix together.  Be sure to ask your child what happens!  Later, we will learn which colors are primary and which are secondary.  There will also be opportunities and activities to experiment with mixing colors.

FREE CHOICE FUN WITH COLOR ACTIVITIES~

Sophie and Cooper engrossed in a game of COLORAMA at Games Galore.

Children have been asked to complete a "color words activity" at the Alphabet Station.  To do this, children choose which color page they would like to do--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple.  First, they cut out the pictures at the bottom of the page and then match it to the correct sentence.  Once the pictures have been glued on to the corresponding sentence, children color the pictures the correct color.  Finally, children can read the sentences using the picture clues for assistance.

Mary completes a Tangram activity at Math Magic.
Using letter stamps, playdough, and color word cards, Anna stamps the word orange in her playdough.  A fun way to practice reading and spelling the color words!

COLORS!

This week, we have begun to study colors!  We will practice reading and spelling the color words; make a class graph of everyone's favorite colors; make our own color books; and do experiments with mixing colors.

In the photo below, you see an activity where students match the color word to the picture of items of that color.  There is a poster to the left of the activity children may use to help them read the color words, if needed.

 STAR OF THE WEEK~CAROLINE
Today we learned more about our friend, Caroline.  Her favorite color is pink; favorite restaurant is Max & Erma's; and favorite animal is a giraffe.  Thank you for telling us about your favorite things and sharing your photos, Caroline!

 ZERO THE HERO DAY!~
Today we celebrated our 50th day of school!  Jake and Christina's moms provided us with beads to make our own keychains to help us celebrate Zero the Hero Day.  Be sure to ask your child to show you his/her keychain.  We attached the keychains to backpacks!  Thank you for a great activity!
